Visit Lake Arrowhead California Year Round
On the spur of the moment we decided to drive up from San Bernardino to Lake Arrowhead California. It was a crisp day in May and overcast. The cloud layer became more and more dense the higher we climbed up the mountain with limited visibility. As we came to the crest of the mountain and turned at the road signage to Lake Arrowhead the sun opened up, and the sky was blue. A white cloud layer remained around the edges of the lake creating a very cool effect.
Lake Arrowhead is 25 miles nestled high up in the mountains of the San Bernardino National Forest. It is a summer playground full of summer camps for kids in the summer, but it is also called “The Alps of Southern California,” for the rich and famous due to it’s close proximity to Los Angeles. In an hour and half one can be out of the smog, traffic and urban asphalt enjoying all the wonders nature has to offer. Some say it is the best kept secret on the West Coast. I don’t know how secret it is, but it is a cool place to spend an afternoon, a long weekend or splurge and rent a house for the week.
Lake Arrowhead is a lovely quaint mountain area offering lots of year round outdoor recreational activities such as:
- Water and snow skiing
You will find some major outlet stores in the little village- Bass store, Coach, Jockey, Van Heusen, Wilsons and a few more touristy stores. Throw in some unique art galleries and gift shops and your can easily lose the day eating, shopping and cruising the lake!
Lake Arrowhead Queen Boat Tour
You can tickets to ride the hour long boat tour around the man made lake. It is a nice way to see the entire lake, gawk at the expensive homes, get a little history, and enjoy the humor of the cheezy boat captain as he narrates the tour.
The Lake Arrowhead Queen sails daily every hour on the hour year round, except for when it is booked for private tours. It’s easy to buy your tickets for the boat at Leroy’s Board Shop just in front of the boat pier.
The Small Local Village offers limited eateries. There is a Waffle Cafe on the lake, Mexican, Thai, Steak house, pizza parlor, sweet shop, sandwich shop, wine & cheese shop and couple of fast food options.
- Belgian Waffle Works
- California Thai Cuisine
- Lake Arrowhead Deli, Pizza
- Papagayos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina
- Subway Sandwiches
- Tea & Coffee Exchange
- Woody’s Boathouse & Specialty Restaurant
Lake Arrowhead Village offers numerous entertainment and events throughout the year. Concerts, Car & Boat Shows, Dog Festival, Oktoberfest and local talent.
This is really limited but small kids will get a kick out of riding the go-carts and bumper cars. There is a carousel and a little local park on the lake front for the kids and dogs.
